Beginning of an Intervention
The intervention process is a simple one and begins with a short telephone call. In that conversation, the biggest decision you will have to make is, “Do I . . . does our family . . . want to intervene professionally?” If the answer to that question is “Yes”, then the logistics of planning the intervention are handled quickly and easily with professional guidance.
In a short phone, or in rare cases, office consultation the participants of the intervention workshop are discussed and selected. The date and place for the workshop are decided upon. Most workshops are held in a private home (a family member or friend’s home), but they can be held anywhere there is a small comfortable room (hotel, church, office). These details fall into place quickly and easily.
Once the who, when and where have been determined, the alcoholic/addict can then be invited to the intervention workshop. Extending the invitation is carefully planned with the advice of the intervention specialist. This is a key piece of the process and is never done prior to all details being in place or without professional guidance.
Your biggest barriers to moving forward are fear and indecision. These are addressed and alleviated with professional advice, all starting with a short, simple phone call. All questions are answered, options discussed and a plan to move forward is developed in this short conversation. If you do not seek professional help here, please seek it somewhere.
